Conne Smith, a central figure in children's theater in Waukesha since 1964, recently experienced the most exciting chapter of her personal saga.

She attended the Broadway opening of "State Fair," the stage version of the classic film that was prepared for the theater by artists she introduced to the craft as members of the Par-Cay Players when they were in Waukesha grade schools.

Her escort for the evening was an alumnus of her high school-age Penny Players, and she capped her visit to New York by attending a performance of "Showboat" with a theater professional she mentored as a schoolboy and to whom she relinquished the Penny Player torch when she took to the stage herself in 1973.
