In the six months that Chieko Mitome had held a low-level office job at a Japanese company, she had heard male employees make lots of references to the size of her breasts. Still, she was mortified when one day her boss declared, as she was serving tea to five visitors, "See this woman who works for me she has big breasts!"

Such behavior is an old story in Japan. But Mitome's response was not. Rather than suffer quietly, she complained to a company official. He assured her that her boss would be reprimanded.
