Hundreds of South Milwaukee students, teachers and parents held a
rally on the steps of the Capitol on Tuesday to protest school
spending caps in a demonstration that a top Republican legislator
called an outrageous political stunt.
"This is an outrageous abuse of children for political purposes,"
said Assembly Majority Leader Scott Jensen (R-Town of Brookfield).
"The teachers want more money, and they can't convince the voters of
South Milwaukee to vote for it."
The rally was sponsored in part by the state teachers union and
the local union representing South Milwaukee teachers, opponents of
the spending caps.
