The top executive of a Dodge County feed company did not doctor
his calf-feed mix with an illegal, steroid-type drug to boost sales,
as the government alleges, but was himself the victim of a scam by
his Dutch suppliers, the executive's lawyer argued Tuesday.
The trial of Jannes "John" Doppenberg, president of Vitek Supply
Corp., opened Tuesday with a federal prosecutor telling jurors that
Doppenberg illegally smuggled the drug Clenbuterol into the United
States and mixed the drug into Vitek products that were sold across
the United States at big profits.
But Doppenberg's attorney, James Shellow, told the federal court
