Pain is something patients should take special pains to
communicate to their physicians. It is important for patients and
physicians to develop a "pain plan" for treating the problem through
mutual discussion, the June Mayo Clinic Health Letter said.
Pain can become a damaging process in its own right and requires
early and aggressive treatment, according to the newsletter.
"Pain is no longer seen as just a companion of disease or injury,"
the Mayo letter said. It can bring on anxiety, stress, anger,
helplessness and depression.
Pain is more than simply an unpleasant stimulus traveling along
