Milwaukee's new convention center, under construction downtown,
has become the target of activists who say the Wisconsin Center is
actually a symbol of the lack of good jobs for many minorities and
women.
On Monday, about 25 members of the self-styled International
Peoples Union gathered at the corner of N. 5th and W. Wells streets
for their morning ritual now in its fifth week of protesting at the
construction site.
Their main gripe a shortage of African-American workers at the
construction site has led them to City Hall, where for several weeks
they've demanded a meeting with Mayor John Norquist.
Playing by the rules has meant too few construction jobs for
