The scientific squabble over global warming heated up again
Wednesday with a Harvard astrophysicist's report that weather
records provide "no evidence" of a coming climatic catastrophe.
"The buildup of greenhouse gases cannot be the cause of most of
the global warming," Sallie Baliunas told a news conference
Wednesday.
Her conclusion, in a study sponsored by the George C. Marshall
Institute, was based on temperature records from 1880 to the present.
They document a 1.1 degree increase worldwide.
"Most of that rise occurred before 1940, while most of the
greenhouse gases produced by human activities entered the atmosphere
after 1940," Baliunas said.
