Persimmon woods have gone the way of hickory shafts, caddie
programs and 4-hour rounds of golf.
In other words, they're hard to find.
Pull out the ol' lacquered persimmon on the first tee these days
and you're liable to get laughed off the course by the Big
Bertha-toting members of your regular foursome.
Stainless steel and now titanium have done to persimmon what
microwave ovens did to home-cooked meals, what suburban malls did to
downtown shopping, what Nicklaus did to Palmer.
Wood woods may be dinosaurs, but they're not extinct. In fact,
there are signs that persimmon is making a comeback.
