U.S. authorities blamed foul weather and rugged Balkan terrain for
the crash of an Air Force passenger jet Wednesday in Croatia that
apparently killed Commerce Secretary Ron Brown and several business
executives.
"There don't appear to be any survivors," said a State Department
official who asked not to be identified. At least 11 people were
confirmed dead and the rest presumed killed.
Deep into the night, rescuers searched for survivors with no
success. The Pentagon reported that 33 people 27 passengers and a
crew of six were on board, but the administration said the list
would not be released until today.
