Fran Fraschilla, who has coached Manhattan to post-season spots
in his four years at the school, will be hired as coach of St. John's
next week, radio station WFAN reported Thursday night.
The station, which broadcasts St. John's games, said in its
unattributed report the appointment will come at a news conference
early in the week.
"He's a candidate, but nobody's been offered the job yet," said
St. John's spokesman Frank Racaniello, adding an announcement next
week is "possible."
A message left on Fraschilla's answering machine was not
immediately returned.
Fraschilla would succeed Brian Mahoney, who was dismissed March 11
after St. John's finished with an 11-16 record, the school's worst ...
