A 4-year-old dog named Hogan recently visited River Falls and New
Richmond high schools in search of drugs.
He didn't find any.
Using dogs like Hogan to sniff student lockers is an increasingly
popular method of dissuading teenagers from carrying narcotics, even
in some of the state's most rural districts.
"We're trying to send a message to students that we don't want
drugs on our campus," River Falls Assistant Principal Tom Carroll
said.
Hogan is a German shepherd trained to detect marijuana and
cocaine. He can check about 400 lockers in 45 minutes, officials
said.
