Article: Residents resisting group facility Developmentally disabled to be near another home

Frustrated residents near Currie Park are angry over plans to open a group home for five developmentally disabled adults near an existing group home in their neighborhood.

City officials say they sympathize with the residents but doubt there is much they can do to stop the home from opening.

Their worries center on a request by Homes for Independent Living Inc. to open a home at 10136 W. Vienna Ave., just 400 feet from a group home for older adults that was licensed last year at 10328 Park Ridge Ave.

Neighbors along W. Vienna Ave. say their property values and quality of life will diminish with the licensing of another group home in the area.
