The rhythm of traditional drums will mingle with blues melodies,
the aroma of peanut stew and Jamaican jerk chicken will waft through
tents filled with native crafts, and the ancestral echoes of faraway
lands will fill the lakefront Maier Festival Park this weekend at
African World Festival.
The three-day celebration of African culture boasts an
entertainment lineup that spans genres from R&B to gospel to West
African dance. Ko-Thi Dance Company, one of America's leading
African American dance companies, performs on the Old Style Stage at
8 p.m. Friday and 5 p.m. Saturday.
The Milwaukee dance troupe, founded in 1969 by West Africa native
