Coach Mike Holmgren's teams have had respectable offensive lines since the day he arrived in Green Bay, and if the pieces fit together, the Packers should field another one this season.

But this year, with Ken Ruettgers perhaps not as solid as he has been and question marks at guard, the organization could use a break or two so the expected transition to younger players next year doesn't need to be rushed.

Under Holmgren and line coach Tom Lovat, the whole has always been greater than the parts. Ruettgers' steadfast pass blocking at the critical left tackle position has been the key constant for 10 years.
