As a Pro Bowl safety for the Los Angeles Rams, Nolan Cromwell
blocked half a dozen punts and on three occasions rushed for
touchdowns as the holder on fake field-goal attempts.
Strangely, that go-for-broke mentality largely has been absent
from the performance of the Green Bay Packers' special teams since
Cromwell began coaching them in 1992.
The conservative approach isn't necessarily coming down from
Packers coach Mike Holmgren, either.
"That's probably more my philosophy than anything," Cromwell
said. "There are situations and times you can take a chance if it
arises, but there are certain games I feel you don't take a chance."
