The total value of taxable property in Wisconsin rose last year by 7.64%, or $15.4 billion good news for homeowners and another sign of the state's robust economy, state officials said Thursday.

The $15.4 billion increase between Jan. 1, 1995, and Jan. 1, 1996, is the second-highest increase in the equalized value of taxable property in Wisconsin in the last 10 years, a state Revenue Department report said.

Only the increase between 1994 and 1995, when property values in the state rose $16.54 billion, or 8.94%, was higher.
