Just when they needed it most, the Milwaukee Brewers got some Big
Help from the Big Hurt.
On the verge of losing a franchise-record 10th consecutive home
game, the Brewers took advantage of a brutal error by Frank Thomas
to rally for a 9-7 victory over the Chicago White Sox in the first
game of a doubleheader Friday night at County Stadium.
Buoyed by that improbable victory, the Brewers rode the strong
pitching of Tim VanEgmond to capture the nightcap, 3-2.
That's right, folks. A team that hadn't won a game in 11 days
took two in one evening.
The sweep was the Brewers' first since Aug. 23, 1993, against
California, also at County Stadium.
