A few months ago, a Milwaukee worker call him Bill hesitantly
told his boss of his HIV-positive status. Less than a month later,
Bill was fired. Although he was not told he was fired because of his
HIV-positive status, he suspects his disclosure cost him his
livelihood. At the same time, an entire shift of workers threatened
to walk off the job at a Milwaukee-area manufacturing plant if an
infected worker was not fired.
Both of these are true stories told to employees at the Milwaukee
AIDS Project's Managing AIDS in the Workplace Program.
Employers who fail to address HIV/AIDS concerns do so at their
