At 312 pages, the October Vanity Fair is not quite the record-setting beast it was last month. But whereas the incredibly shrinking pop-political magazine George seems to have caught a fatal case of "slim disease," Vanity Fair and its advertising department have discovered the magazine industry equivalent of steroids.

Though editorial matter is nearly impossible to find among Vanity Fair's hundreds of ad pages, persistent page flippers will be rewarded by a long piece on the down-and-dirty late-night war between Jay Leno and Dave Letterman.
