Article: Kliesmet ousted as sheriff Baldwin wins city, 16 suburbs

Robert Kliesmet, appointed Milwaukee County sheriff last year by the governor, was turned out of office Tuesday as voters picked Lev Baldwin to take over the department.

Baldwin, the deputy superintendent of the House of Correction, swept to victory in the Democratic primary election by winning Milwaukee and 16 suburbs. Kliesmet won only South Milwaukee and Cudahy.

Baldwin, 48, won the Democratic nomination for sheriff with 49% of the votes cast, compared with 37% for Kliesmet. Baldwin is virtually assured of winning the sheriff's post in the November general election because there is no registered Republican candidate.
