Improved midfield play, helped by the return of Konkol and Kratochvil from injuries, is expected to keep UWM on the offensive and cut down on the Panthers' goals allowed in '96. Nobody would blame Sue Moynihan for thinking her University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee women's soccer team was jinxed last season.
Despite the loss of five players to major injuries, the Panthers
managed a 9-9-1 record and advanced to the Midwestern Collegiate
Conference tournament final.
So what are the possibilities for a healthier, more experienced
UWM team in 1996?
"One of our goals is to win the MCC tournament this year," said
Moynihan, who has a 35-35-5 record in four seasons as UWM's coach.
"And we want to bump up our regional ranking with an eye to getting
into the NCAA tournament.
"It's not unrealistic to assume we can get to that level."
