Q: We planted a tulip bed between two trees 25 feet apart, but the
tree roots snuffed the bulbs out in two years.
I dug out the planting bed and built a concrete wall around it and
poured a concrete floor in it.
In just one year, the tree roots have gone through the wall and
filled the planting bed with roots.
Is there a way to stop tree roots from doing it again? Or should
I just give up and plant grass in the area?
A: You have met the power of nature and you have been defeated.
Lesson learned! Plant grass and hang a hammock between the trees
and enjoy it.
Q: Could you offer some suggestions on what to do about cluster
flies? Our frame farmhouse is full of them in winter.
