Two Republican lawmakers Wednesday called for increasing the state
gasoline tax by 2 to 3 cents per gallon to pay for transportation
projects.
And they said additional increases perhaps in vehicle
registration fees and driver's license renewal fees might be needed
on top of a gas tax boost to adequately fund the state's
transportation needs.
"Two to three cents would be salable in the Legislature, but I
don't know whether it will be adequate," said Rep. Ben Brancel
(R-Endeavor), who next month will officially become the speaker of
the Assembly.
