I cannot write with any authority about Hanukkah having been
raised a Roman Catholic, it is not in my tradition. But I know good
food when I see it, and I treasure my small collection of Jewish
cookbooks, which speak to me of history, of culture and of great
eating.
The recipes for festive holiday appetizers come from two cookbooks
new to my shelf and from one old favorite. The new books are: "The
Great Chefs of America Cook Kosher" (Vital Media Enterprises, 1996),
a collection of incredible recipes from some of the country's premier
kitchens, and "The Sephardic Kitchen" by Rabbi Robert Sternberg
(HarperCollins, 1996), a compendium of healthful and delicious
recipes from Mediterranean ...
