When the new administration dawns, Hillary Rodham Clinton will be older, wiser and better schooled in the ways of Washington.

Those who know her say her priorities children, women and families won't change, though her expectations about how much government can do almost certainly will.

Lessons from the failure of health care reform in 1993 won't be forgotten, says Elizabeth Sherman, director of the Center for Women in Politics and Public Policy, part of the University of Massachusetts Boston. "Today she is chastened," Sherman says. "She's found there are formidable opponents in Washington. And I don't think we'll see her try to scale the heights of these great mountains again." ...
