Because he plays on a club dominated by standout pitchers, Atlanta
first baseman Fred McGriff's exploits are often overlooked by fans
and writers.
That certainly isn't the case in the Braves' clubhouse.
McGriff, who is quietly collecting spectacular lifetime
statistics, continued a torrid post-season streak by driving in the
first three runs in Atlanta's 4-0 victory over New York in Game 2 of
the World Series Monday night at Yankee Stadium.
"I'm not surprised at all," said Braves manager Bobby Cox, who
started the left-handed hitting McGriff in the cleanup spot for the
second consecutive night against a left-handed starter, the Yankees'
Jimmy Key.
