Matt Knowles, the National Professional Soccer League's defender
of the year last season, had resigned himself to missing the
Milwaukee Wave's 1996-'97 opener, against the Kansas City Attack at
7:30 tonight at the Bradley Center.
Late last spring, Knowles was told by the league office that he
would be suspended for three games at the start of the new season for
conduct against officials in the game in which the Wave was
eliminated from the playoffs.
But coach Keith Tozer delivered the news Thursday that Knowles
would be in the starting lineup after all. The league decided that
Knowles could serve the suspension in the three games after the
opener.
