President Clinton enters the final days of the campaign with a
distinct lead over Bob Dole in Wisconsin, but the gap has narrowed
since early September, according to a new statewide poll of likely
voters.
The poll offers a vivid snapshot of the election's endgame: a
Democratic president who gets good marks for job performance but
comparatively poor marks for ethics and honesty; a relatively
unpopular Republican challenger; and a third party contender, Ross
Perot, whose support is down sharply from '92 but remains higher in
Wisconsin than it is nationwide.
