Rockford's largest bank holding company, AMCORE Financial Inc.,
said Thursday it would buy the group of Wisconsin banks held by
Country Bank Shares Corp., based in Mount Horeb, in a $41 million
stock swap.
The banks are State Bank of Argyle; Citizens State Bank, Clinton;
Montello State Bank; and State Bank of Mount Horeb. The banks have
nine offices and combined assets of $226 million.
Country Bank Shares is in the process of acquiring Belleville
Bancshares Corp., the parent of Belleville State Bank, which has $38
million in assets. The AMCORE deal is contingent upon that
acquisition being completed.
Rockford, Ill.-based AMCORE's assets total $2.76 billion. It will
