Article: Umpires' call: Keep working Baseball promises summit aimed at better conduct

Having succeeded in keeping umpires on the job for the remainder of the 1996 post-season, acting commissioner Bud Selig said Friday that baseball could not afford another conflict like the Roberto Alomar incident.

With that in mind, Selig announced that a summit meeting would be held Nov. 14 in Phoenix to establish codes of conduct between players and umpires, as well as subsequent penalties.

"I have asked all the parties to convene to discuss the problems that currently exist in the game and to give everyone the opportunity to clear the air," Selig said.
