The state Department of Natural Resources announced Friday that it had granted a private group more than $200,000 for the purchase of land along Big Cedar Lake.

The project has proved divisive, pitting anglers and boaters seeking access to the Washington County lake against the private, non-profit organization backing the project.

A leading member of those opposed to DNR funding has vowed to appeal the decision in court. At issue for anglers and boaters is a net loss of parking spots at the lake as a result of the project.
