Sen. Russ Feingold (D-Wis.) said Monday that he would introduce
legislation to ensure public access to lakes, an issue that has
gained notoriety here as a result of a state-sponsored development
on Big Cedar Lake.
Feingold, in a town hall meeting at the West Bend high schools'
auditorium, said his interest in such legislation stemmed from
concerns about the increasing difficulty of reaching some pristine
lakes in northern Wisconsin because of private development.
Everybody, he said, should have access to the state's natural
resources, "not just those who are very fortunate."
