One of the great minor luxuries of travel is staying in a hotel suite. Fortunately, the pleasures of a suite are no longer reserved for celebrities and corporate bigwigs: All-suite hotel chains have brought rates down to levels that are competitive with those of ordinary mid-range and even budget hotels.

On vacation, I especially like a suite's separate living and sleeping areas. A conventional hotel room is dominated by the bed(s). When I want to have visitors up, I have to worry about whether the housekeeper has made up the beds in my part of the hotel.
