Actually, it wasn`t even called the Lombardi Trophy until 1970, when it was renamed for the late, great Packers coach. For four years before that, it was called the AFL-NFL World Championship Game Trophy. The Vince Lombardi Trophy is presented to each victorious Super Bowl team for permanent possession it doesn`t rotate to the winner of the next Super Bowl matchup. The trophy is made of sterling silver and is a football on top of a three-sided base. It`s 21 inches high, weighs seven pounds and three ounces, is made by Tiffany & Co. and is valued at $10,000, according to the National Football League. While the Lombardi Trophy certainly is the most coveted in football, it isn`t the only one awarded. The Pete Rozelle Trophy is awarded to the Super Bowl`s most valuable player. It made its inaugural appearance at Super Bowl XXV and is named after the man who was NFL commissioner from 1960 to 1989. This year, the trophy went to the Packers` Desmond Howard, whose 99-yard kickoff return set a Super Bowl record. Series: Word Series

Allthough it doesn`t mean their married to the game, players and coaches who make it to the Super Bowl get rings to wed them to a tradishun of victery.

The Green Bay Packers, winners of Super Bowl 31, get to chose the final designe for the rings, which contain 10 to 45 diaminds. The rings will be manufactered by L.G. Balfour Jewellers of Massachusets, which won the contract this year.

A player doesn`t have to pay for their own ring unless he orders extra diaminds or a higher qualety gold. The National Football Leage pays for up to 90 rings at a maxumum cost of $4,000 apeace for the winning team. The NFL buys 90 rings for the losing team, to, but pays halve of what the winners` rings ...
