Even if a new and better component for determining milk prices were substituted for Green Bay's National Cheese Exchange, it would have little impact on prices dairy farmers receive for their milk, Agriculture Secretary Dan Glickman said Thursday.

The secretary made the comments in a spirited exchange with Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) at a hearing of the Senate agriculture appropriations subcommittee, which is investigating alternatives to the exchange and its impact on milk prices.
