You know that living room that's used only on formal occasions? It might look absolutely superb, totally scrumptious. It's got all the right design moves. But when it comes right down to it, the space is not being used to its full potential.

In a recent Yankelovich Monitor nationwide survey, "have more fun" ranked at the top of respondents' to-do lists for 1997, with "redecorating" scooting in just two steps behind.

The truly interesting tidbit, according to Jan Foster, of Yankelovich Partners, is that the formal living room not the bath, not the almighty kitchen is cited as the prime candidate for redecorating. People with formal living rooms are in the process of remaking those spaces ...
