Article: Criminal code overhaul proposed Public needs to know punishment fits crime, Thompson says

Gov. Tommy Thompson proposed Tuesday that the state overhaul its criminal code to make sure the punishment fits the crime.

The Republican governor said he would appoint a bipartisan commission to work on recodification of the criminal code, which has not been overhauled since the 1950s.

Although the governor's office said details on the commission would come later, the development drew praise from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle, who said a major revision of the code was long overdue.
