As the story goes, the first brownie was probably a chocolate
cake that didn't rise. That baking failure, as we all know, turned
into a huge success.
But what really changed dessert history was when the brownie
met hot fudge and ice cream. That was the birth of the brownie
sundae. And that combination of fudge-on-fudge with ice cream in the
middle is just about the most indulgent dessert one could imagine.
I can't think of any occasion that wouldn't suit such a
sundae, so when I bake a new brownie, I always think about matching
it with sauces and ice creams. I may pair white chocolate and
raspberry brownies with raspberry sauce and raspberry ice cream or
top peanut butter brownies ...
