A 250-plus pound jumbo back burst onto the national scene with a
Heisman-like performance Sunday at Giants Stadium.
Unfortunately for the University of Wisconsin, his name isn't Ron
Dayne.
It's Syracuse fullback Rob Konrad, and yes he's proud to be a
fullback. He put up some numbers that Dayne would have loved to
shower upon the two busloads of family and friends who made the trip
from southern New Jersey to see him play in Kickoff Classic XV.
Konrad rumbled for 76 yards in just eight carries for a 9.5
yard-per-carry average. The junior was perhaps even more impressive
as a pass receiver, gaining 46 yards in two catches out of the
