Article: Guitar firm picks up good wood Old timber was once on Lake Superior's bottom

Wood from old-growth timber that rested on the bottom of Lake Superior for more than a century soon will be in the hands of a Waukesha guitar maker who plans to transform the material into `brand-new antique` instruments.

William Paul Jarowsky, president of W. Paul Guitars Inc., plans to use the century-old wood to turn out as many as 200 guitars, which each could sell for $8,000 or more. Already, Jarowsky's business has built one guitar from the wood.

`This wood sat under water for 100 years and now it is antique,` said Jarowsky. `You could say we are building brand-new antiques. Superior Water-Logged Lumber Co., based in Ashland, began using air bags in 1995 to raise old growth ...
