The medical benefits of red wine are no greater than those for
white wine or beer, a new medical study says.
The study, done by Kaiser Permanente Medical Center of Oakland and
published in the latest issue of the American Journal of Cardiology,
analyzed heart disease rates among 129,000 Kaiser members in
Northern California.
The eight-year study, led by Arthur L. Klatsky, confirmed earlier
research showing that "light drinking definitely helps protect
against heart disease." However, "red wine confers no more
protection than beer or white wine."
The study also said "the decreased risk of heart disease from
moderate drinking does not justify the net effects of heavy
