For the first time in nine years, chinook salmon dominated the
1996 catch of large recreational fish from Wisconsin waters of Lake
Michigan, a special report compiled by the Great Lakes Fishery
Commission says.
In a section devoted to the Wisconsin sports fishery, the report
also notes that anglers spent an estimated 2,973,000 hours fishing
on Lake Michigan or Green Bay last year, with boat angling efforts
making up 73% of the total.

"Chinook salmon, for the first time in nine years, dominated the
salmonid harvest with 39% or 34,173 of the total catch. Coho salmon
were second at 27,025. The steelhead harvest declined by 10,148
from 1995 to 12,917 fish, ...
