Upset that a judge ordered him to register as a sex offender,
former state Sen. Dale T. McKenna might try to back out of a plea
deal he struck, his new attorney announced Thursday.
McKenna plans to appeal the sentencing imposed July 22 by Circuit
Judge Lee S. Dreyfus, which included a one-month jail term, two
years of probation with sexual offender counseling and offender
registration, McKenna's new lawyer, Jonathan Smith, said in court.
McKenna, former president of the Jefferson County Bar Association,
may argue on appeal that his former legal team was ineffective and
failed to warn him that he could be ordered to register as a sex
offender, Smith said.
