Money from the Bank of China was used to buy access to President
Clinton and get a photograph eventually used to sell Chinese beer, a
member of a Senate committee said Thursday in the first specific
allegation of Chinese money involved in the U.S. election.
Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) said the money was given to California
businessman Johnny Chung, who in turn gave it to the Democratic
National Committee in order to buy entrance to the White House for
himself and five Chinese friends.
"It is apparent that the source of the $50,000 check to the
Democratic National Committee came from funds that were . . .
transferred from the Bank of China," Specter said.
The senator later told reporters: ...
