The first day of Sentry Foods RiverFest kicked off with a splash Thursday when Mayor Carol A. Opel and Waukesha County Executive Daniel M. Finley dueled on the Fox River.

Aided by their spouses, the two officials had a canoe race across the river and back, with the Finley team delivering a sound thrashing to Opel and her husband, Robert.

In a show of good sportsmanship, Finley and his wife, Jennie, stalled their paddling efforts for a minute or two during the race to let the competition catch up.
