Is it possible to be too big for football?
Ask 11-year-old Billy O'Connell, whose 5-foot-7, 215-pound frame
makes him ineligible for the Pony League, much to the frustration of
his father.
"These other boys are getting a chance to play in games and my
boy isn't," said Daniel O'Connell, of South Range.
The independent league, which has eight teams throughout the
Superior and Maple school districts, has a weight limit of 165
pounds. Players who exceed the limit may practice with their teams
and suit up, but they must remain on the sidelines during the
games.
"It just isn't right," said O'Connell, who's trying to generate
support to change the rule.
