Article: GRECO-ROMAN WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS Two victories put Hall in quarterfinals

Dennis Hall, the wrestler from Stevens Point, Wis., who won a silver medal in the 1996 Olympic Games, advanced to the quarterfinals of the Greco-Roman World Championships on Thursday.

Hall, who in 1995 became only the second U.S. wrestler to win a Greco-Roman world title, defeated two opponents as he opened competition at 127.75 pounds. Hall won by referee's decision over Ruslan Hakimov of Ukraine, 2-0, in overtime; then he earned a 5-0 decision over Sinan Hanli of Germany in a second-round match.

Hakimov was the fourth-place finisher in the 1996 Olympics. The 26-year-old Hall, chasing his fourth consecutive world medal, was to face Djamel Ainaoui of France in the quarterfinals today.
