Until Godzilla moonwalks his way through Manhattan in a
couple of weeks, the season's champion movie monster will have to be
Woody Allen in a bathing suit.
Mothers, avert your babes' eyes! Virgins, cower and pray for
deliverance! Strong men quiver, for the end is near!
All others, get ready to enjoy. For though "Wild Man Blues"
shows us this mild man 98 percent au naturel in a paler shade of
white, it also shows him 99 percent funny. It's the funniest Woody
Allen movie since "Mighty Aphrodite" and does quite a bit to wipe
away the rancid aftertaste of his last film, the appallingly hateful
"Deconstructing Harry." Yet it's not really a Woody Allen movie. Or
is it?
