While it's not a dinosaur, or even an endangered species, the living room isn't where many of us live anymore. Nor do we entertain there. In fact, some of us rarely enter the room.

As a result, the living room is being downsized or even deleted in some new homes, say Milwaukee-area housing and design professionals. And its survivor is taking on an old name: the parlor.

These developments make us part of a national trend, says Gopal Ahluwalia, director of research for the National Association of Home Builders, with headquarters in Washington, D.C.
