A small Wisconsin brewery has made some brewers in Belgium see
red.
Their fury stems from the use of the word "Belgian" by New Glarus
Brewing Co., which calls one of its beers Wisconsin Belgian Red.
Belgian brewers, claiming that the use of that word "misleads the
public," have hired a Chicago attorney and are seeking compensation
from the microbrewery.
Debra Carey, New Glarus Brewing's president, said she received a
two-page letter this week from attorney Bart A. Lazar. She called
the dustup "silly."
The letter states: "We trust that you understand that geographic
misdescription and confusion in the marketplace does not serve your
interests."
